Porto - Douro Valley - Porto (8 days)

Day 1 – Arrive Porto

Fly from London to Porto and transfer to vessel. Embarkation from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.

Day 2 – Exploring Porto

Depart 2:30pm

Guided city tour through port wine’s namesake Porto: Fishermen, seafarers, traders and ship builders from Porto were all part of the Portuguese explorers. In the 19th century, Porto gave its name to one of the finest wines in the world: the port wine that must be tried when visiting a typical port wine cellar. Discover the narrow streets and centuries-old buildings as well as the city's trademark, the iron bridge, built under the direction of Gustav Eiffel. From the cathedral on Penaventosa Hill is a breathtaking view over the river. The view from the Pilar Monastery, which is located on a hill above the town of Vila Nova de Gaia, is just as unique.

Day 3 – Régua

Arrive 12:00pm Depart 9:00am (next day)

Guided excursion into the pilgrim city of Lamego with its impressive flight of stairs and the Gothic cathedral: Lamego was created in the Portuguese Baroque. The Saint of Remedies found his final resting place in Lamego. If you like, you can walk around 600 steps down from the pilgrimage site to the city. The Gothic cathedral and the local museum with an impressive collection of paintings are particularly worth seeing. Lamego is also known for various specialties: smoked ham, bola de lamego (bread filled with smoked ham) and the Raposeira sparkling wine.

Day 4 – Pinhão

Arrive 11:30am - Depart 12:30pm

Guided excursion to the magnificent, Baroque Mateus Palace in Vila Real with its beautiful, park-like gardens (from Régua to Pinhão): Between the 15th and 17th centuries, numerous members of the nobility settled in Vila Real. The city's main attraction is the Mateus Palace, the mansion of the last count of Vila Real. The baroque building is located in a lovingly maintained park with bizarre cut hedges and ancient trees. The count's gardens are among the most beautiful places in Europe.

Day 5 – Vega Terrón

Arrive 7:00pm (day before) - Depart 9:00am (next day)

Day trip to the Spanish university town of Salamanca with its impressive cathedral and Plaza Mayor (includes lunch).

Day 6 - Barca d’Alva/Pinhão

Arrive 11:00am - Depart 6:30am (next day)

Guided excursion to Castelo Rodrigo, one of the historical parishes in Portugal, with its castle ruins steeped in history (from Barca d’Alva / to Pocinho): Castelo Rodrigo is one of the 12 historic parishes in Portugal, about 670 m above sea level. For centuries Jews, Arabs and Christians lived here peacefully. Because of the almond trees, the medieval town is known as "the white city". Visit the ruins of the castle and palace with us, hike through the cobblestone alleys and discover facades from the 16th century and window ornaments in the famous Manuelino style.

Guided tour through the tranquil city of Pinhão with a visit to the famous railway station adorned with blue and white tiles.

Visit to a traditional Quinta (vineyard) with dinner: The winery is known for producing Moscatel, a Portuguese dessert wine that is unique in its golden color and taste reminiscent of oranges and honey.

Day 7 – Back to Porto
