What documentation will I need for a Nicko cruise?

In general, you will need your cruise confirmation which will be sent to you approximately 14 prior to departure, a valid passport, plus any required visa and vaccination certificates. Please refer to the General Information section for more detailed information.

Are children allowed on board?

Accommodation for a child is possible in a 3-bed-cabin (where available). Children up to and including 11 years of age are priced differently, please call our reservations team for a quote. Children must be accompanied by an adult over 18 years old and must be sharing the same cabin. Our river cruises are not generally suitable for children. There are no separate child-friendly entertainment programme's, childcare, toys, child seats or cribs offered for children on board. Children under 3 years of age are not allowed on board.

What is the currency used on board?

The currency on board is Euro.

Can I exchange currency on board?         

Money cannot be exchanged on the ship.

Is there a dress code on board the ship?

We recommend wearing smart casual clothing for the evening and smarter attire for the Gala Dinner. More relaxed attire can be worn during the day for sightseeing and general relaxation around the ship. It is recommended to wear non-slip shoes on the outside decks.

Are vaccines necessary to travel with Nicko cruises?

It is important for guests to check with your family physician about infection prevention and vaccinations as well as other prophylactic measures. If special vaccinations are mandatory on your cruise route, we will notify you at the time of booking and details will be confirmed in our travel documents. Each guest is responsible for meeting the entry requirements at each of the respective destinations.

How does dining work?

Our pricing includes full board on our river ships including:

  • Generous breakfast with coffee, tea and juices
  • 4-course menu at lunchtime
  • 5-course evening menu served at the table
  • Optional light lunch buffet
  • Coffee/tea after lunch and dinner
  • Coffee/cake or late-night snack according to daily schedule
  • Festive Gala Dinner
  • Welcome and Farewell Reception
  • Allocated table reservation on board

What activities and entertainment are available on a Nicko cruise?

In addition to the beautiful scenery, you will experience along the river, which can be enjoyed from the Sun Deck, we focus on our excursions programme. Included in your price are a range of included excursions which are highlighted on the individual itineraries. In addition, there are a variety of optional shore excursions which you can add to your sightseeing programme for an additional charge. These can be booked on board.

Our experienced cruise director is on hand to support you during your voyage. Guests can also enjoy evenings in the lounge with a cocktail and board games or a game of bingo. There is also a resident musician on-board.

What amenities are included in my room?

Each cabin grade is equipped with a variety of amenities and this will depend on the ship and the cabin category you choose. For a full description of cabins categories and amenities please visit the relevant ship profile page.

What room services are available?

Room service facilities do differ between our river ships. Please call our sales team for more information.

What power sockets are used on board? 

All our cruise ships feature 2-pin (round pin) Continental style plug (220 volt-60 Hz).

Is smoking allowed on the ship?

Smoking is only permitted on the outside deck (and on most ships only in the designated smoking areas). On all our ships, all interior areas such as restaurants, parlours, cabins, corridors, etc. are non-smoking areas.

Do you need to tip?

For peace of mind, we include tips in the price of your cruise

Is there a laundry service available on the ship?

Due to their size, there are no laundry services available on our river ships.

Can I send letters or call from the ship?

You can send post while on board. The post will usually be mailed when we reach the next port. Postcards and postage stamps can be purchased at the reception desk on board, but please bear in mind that prices on board may often be more expensive than ashore.

You can make calls on board from cabin to cabin on most Nicko River ships. It is also possible to call ashore via a satellite link. The costs of this, however, are high and we recommend using your own mobile phone (please check with your network provider for information on roaming charges).

Is there internet access on board?

Yes, we include WIFI costs in the price of your cruise. This will be applicable to one registered device.

Are port taxes included in the price of the cruise? 

Yes

Does Nicko cruises have a cancellation policy?

What languages are spoken on board?

The languages spoken on board are English and German.

Are Nicko cruises ships suitable for wheelchair users?

Unfortunately, our river ships are not suitable for wheelchair users. The ships are comfortable as possible, but there will of course be staircases, as well as narrow doors and corridors. The entry over the predominantly narrow gangways is not always at ground level; it can also happen that ships lie “in a pack” and you have to board via the sun deck and across several other ships to access your Nicko ship. In general, none of our river cruise ships are equipped for disabled guests. If you require specialised help, you must travel with a companion. Our crew is of course on hand to help; however, please bear in mind that our employees are nor trained caregivers and are not permitted to carry out any nursing activities.

What drinks are included within the fare?

A beverage package is included in the fare including:

  • House wine by the glass
  • House sparkling wine by the glass
  • Draft and bottled beers plus non-alcoholic beers
  • Daily cocktails (alcoholic/non-alcoholic)
  • Soft drinks
  • Mineral water
  • All speciality coffees, hot chocolate and tea

Does Nicko cruises cater for dietary restrictions?

Suitable catering options will usually always be provided for you. If you have any specific dietary requirements or special meals, please notify us at the time of booking to ensure that we can cater for you.

Do I need travel insurance to travel with Nicko cruises?

Yes, it is a condition of booking with Light Blue Travel that all guests must have suitable travel insurance and you are not permitted to travel with us without it. Please see our Booking Conditions for more detailed information.

What happens to my luggage during check-in?

Luggage will be taken onboard by our crew and left outside your cabin door.

Is there a doctor available on board?

A doctor is present on board the Nicko cruises ships on all 12,15 & 17-day Danube cruises to provide first aid in emergency situations. Doctors can also be accessed from ashore at short notice. Billing for the doctors’ services and if, applicable, medication that has been administered, is carried out on board.

What do medical services cost on board? 

Costs will very much depend on the service. Our prices are displayed on board, however please be aware these can be quite expensive. If medical services are sort after from ashore then costs will be subject to the local medical provider.

What can I not bring on board?

Your luggage must only contain personal items. It is forbidden to bring weapons, knives, alcohol or drugs on board.

Will there be professional photographs taken throughout the voyage? 

No, there are no photographers onboard our river ships.
