It enjoys a prime location overlooking the beachfront Praça (or square) on one side and the green fairways of the golf course on the other. It has long been a favourite for the British and much of its old world charm has been retained along with its high standards of personal service ensuring many repeat customers each year. The hotel has its own golf course - San Lorenzo Golf Club at Quinta do Lago - which is one of the most highly rated courses in Portugal, where guests receive reduced green fees. The newly refurbished lounges and reception areas blend in well with the traditional décor and terracotta tiled flooring. The spacious rooms are well equipped and furnished with traditional antiques.

One can dine informally in the Primavera restaurant, which offers a wide range of cuisine including an Italian à la carte menu, or more formally in the Dom Duarte Grill Room. Within a short stroll the Praça offers a varied selection of restaurants, bars, boutiques and a nightclub.

The children’s Penguin Village, adjacent to the hotel, has excellent facilities and is available to guests at discounted rates. It is supervised by highly qualified staff and caters for children up to 11 years old.
