Belmond Reid’s Palace is the queen of the Madeiran hotels sitting proudly on her throne overlooking the bay of Funchal.

Since Scotsman William Reid established the hotel 1891, Reid's Palace has been the holiday choice of many royal and historic names who have graced the visitor’s book. Perhaps the best remembered are the many visits of Winston Churchill, after whom the Churchill suite of rooms is honoured. George Bernard Shaw, the playwright, also spent time at Reid’s Palace and learnt to dance on the magnificent tea terrace. Much of the history of the hotel has been chronicled and is proudly displayed in the reception lounges.

There is something very special about Reid's Palace probably because of its age, history and wonderful character. The hotel offers a variety of rooms and suites in several buildings on different levels all internally connected by lifts and stairs. It takes guests a while to orientate themselves if they have not visited before.

There are five superb restaurants featuring a range of traditional and international cuisine, either casual or formal. The spectacular cocktail lounge leads out onto the famous black and white tiled tea terrace with traditional cane furniture where countless celebrities have indulged in afternoon tea.

The fantastic gardens are part of what makes this hotel special. Cobbled pathways wind through the 10 of acres mature sub-tropical gardens along the rocky headline enjoying the most spectacular panoramic views.
